“All of earth is crammed with heaven
And every bush aflame with God
But only those who see take off their shoes.”
*Elizabeth Barrett Browning*
This month I had an experience with holy ground. No flashes of light or angels with swords, but connections. People gathered together… community… hope… unity and bonding through God’s infinite grace.
We worshipped. We heard music in many styles and scripture in different languages. We made our favorite meals from around the world. We met new and old friends gathered around the table. Diversity.
Sure, its simple, but isn’t that where God is?
In the moments we would miss if we didn’t stop our running, pause and notice the people around us.
To take time to realize the holy in the ordinary… Time to hold a paper plate full of delicious food, and look into the eyes of people who, like you, find our belovedness and our freedom in Jesus Christ.
“When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
And Moses said, “Here I am.”
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” *
May you realize today that you are standing on holy ground.
May you take a closer look at God working in our midst.
May you find yourself barefoot and in awe.
